Melvin Emery Powell



HALLSBORO--Melvin Emery Powell, 73, of 3285 Red Bug Road, Hallsboro, died Friday, October 20, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System.

He was a former educator in the Columbus County School System and elder at the Gospel Harvest Church of God in Christ.
The funeral will be 12:00 PM Wednesday, October 25, at the Gospel Harvest Church of God in Christ, 150 South Blacksmith Road, Bolton, by Elder Shawn Maynor. Burial will be in the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Viewing will be at Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville Tuesday from 12:00 to 7:00 PM and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to and following the service. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home chapel.
Surviving are his wife, Minnie Freeman Powell; daughter, Deirdre Hatten of Dallas; sons, Daryl Powell of Greensboro and Roderick Freeman of Tacoma, WA; sister, Angela Powell-Woodard of Durham; brothers, Charles Powell and Tyrone Powell of Hallsboro and Michael Powell of Petersburg, VA; and three grandchildren.
