GREENSBORO—Robert Leon Shaw, 68, formerly of Chadbourn, died Wednesday, June 3, at Moses Cone Green Valley Campus in Greensboro.
Son of the late Elder B.F. Shaw and Macie McDuffie Shaw, he was born January 28, 1952 in Chadbourn, North Carolina.
He attended the former Westside High School and graduated from West Columbus High School in 1970. Robert joined the United States Army and married Mildred Vereen. He completed his basic training at Fort Stewart, Georgia and served as a dental technician. His first duty station was in Tacoma, Washington, and he was subsequently assigned to Frankfurt, Germany, Wiesbaden, Germany, and Fort Benning, Georgia. After his honorable discharge from the service, he owned and operated a dental laboratory in Wilmington, North Carolina for over twenty years. He was an operator for Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority as well as a driver for a fuel tanker company for several years.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth Shaw and Donald Ray Shaw, and his sister Jannie Lee Shaw.
He is survived by his daughter, Bridget Shaw Thomas (Darron) of Greensboro, North Carolina; sisters, Betty Hill (Jerry) of Birmingham, Alabama, Mylene Griffin of Augusta, Georgia, Wanetta Rankins (Roosevelt) of Middletown, Connecticut, and Geraldine Brown (Delon) of Durham, North Carolina; brother, Ben Shaw of Atlanta, Georgia; as well as a host of relatives and friends who loved and greatly cared for him throughout his life.
